Grandpa and Grandma Hodge’s Apple Bread Recipe
This homemade apple bread recipe comes from Raymond Charles Hodge, Grandpa Hodge, and Linda Karen Soderberg Hodge, Grandma Hodge. It is a sweet, comforting loaf made with chopped apples, vanilla, and a cinnamon sugar topping.
Apple bread is wonderful for breakfast, dessert, an afternoon snack, or sharing with family. Use your favorite apples; Honeycrisp is always a good choice.

Original Family Recipe
Apple Bread by: Raymond Charles Hodge (Grandpa Hodge) & Linda Karen (Soderberg) Hodge ( Grandma Hodge)
Cream together the following:
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
In a separate larger bowl mix the following:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 talb milk
- 2 cups of chopped apples ( use your favorites ) honey crisp is always a good one to add
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
Stir with a wooden spoon the margarine, eggs and sugar mixture into the larger bowl with the flour,baking soda, milk, apples and vanilla together. This will be very lumpy
In a small bowl mix 3 talb sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon (I usually double this )
Pour Apple Bread into a bread pan and sprinkle the sugar and cinnamon mix on top
Baking Instructions
350 degrees 50 to 60 minutes
How to Serve Apple Bread
Serve slices plain, with a little butter, or warmed slightly. It also goes nicely with coffee or as a sweet side for brunch.
